by Harley Palangchao

Another marathon is on the works, which organizers expect will draw elite runners during the 1st Baguio City Marathon on June 2.

With Scout Barrio as starting line, participants for the 42-kilometer division will run towards Philex then back to Baguio City. Participants for the 21K will follow the same direction but will have a nearer turning point.

Gun fires at 4 a.m. for the full marathon and 5 a.m. for the 21K.

Registration fee for 42K is P1,300 and P900 for 21K. Fees are inclusive of dri-fit shirt, finisher’s certificate, finisher’s medal, and post-race snacks.

Top three male and female finishers for 42K and 21K will receive cash prizes and medals.

Organized by FrontRunner Magazine in partnership with Baguio Country Mart, the event offers 20 percent discount to senior citizen participants.

Only physically fit runners aged 18 and above will be allowed to join the race.

Registration has started and deadline is on May 15 with no extension, according to organizers.

Interested participants may register at the Baguio Country Mart-Session. They can also pay via Bank of the Philippine Islands account 2379-0362-39 under account name Constante C. Mendoza Jr.

Organizers said registration will be closed immediately if slots are complete on May 15.

It is expected those who were not able to join the 2013 The North Face 100 Asia Pacific will see action in the 1st Baguio Marathon.
