Eric Kelly still unbeaten after ONE FC4 bout against Korean
by Harley Palangchao

Once Baguio-based MMA fighter Eric “The Natural” Kelly stayed unbeaten with a unanimous decision win against South Korean fighter Bae Yong Kwon in the One Fighting Championship held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia over the weekend.

Kelly, who is now based in Malaysia, improved his MMA record to perfect 7-0, after his latest fight at ONE FC4 “Destiny of Warriors” at the Stadium Negara.

The Baguio fighter almost submitted his South Korean opponent via rear naked choke in the third and final round but the latter managed to escape before the bell rang.

Kelly, reports said, exchanged good punches and kicks in the first and second rounds and he managed to escape from the submission attempts of his tough opponent.

At one point in the second round, Kwon was given a yellow flag for an illegal elbow blow.

This is the second time Kelly fought in the biggest MMA promotion in Asia after defeating Mitch Chilson in the ONE FC1 “Champion vs Champion” in Singapore last year.

Kelly, the featherweight champion, won the “submission of the night award” during the debut of ONE FC while URCC champion Eduard “The Landslide” Folayang emerged victorious in his fight against A Sol Kwon and won the “fight of the night” award in the same tournament.

Prior to his latest fight, he turned down some of the fights offered to him when he was still in the country reason why he was almost invisible since September last year. Kelly opted to stay and teach MMA in Malaysia, saying there is more opportunity to become financially stable there while he get lots of exposure in his training with some of the best MMA fighters in Asia.

The fight between Team Lakay’s Roldan “The Executioner” Sangcha-an, one of the top Filipino prospects, and Allamurad “Pretty Boy” Kayayev was cancelled due to health reasons on the part of the foreign fighter.
