An accomplished taekwondo jin from Parañaque City is this year’s Athletic Saber awardee of the 167-strong member of the Philippine Military Academy Salaknib Class of 2017.

Taekwondo blackbelt, Air Force Cadet First Class Franklin Ezperanzate Dellomos, will receive the saber from Baguio Mayor Mauricio Domogan during the graduation rites at Fort Del Pilar in Baguio, today.

The 23-year-old Dellomos earned the distinction of a “Tarzan” for winning medals in taekwondo and arnis, bringing pride and honor to his alma mater.

Dellomos was a gold medalist in poomsae and won silver in kyurogi in the 5th World Taekwondo Culture Expo in South Korea in 2011. This was one of his motivations when he represented PMA in previous regional and national competitions.

At one point, he won five gold medals in the Region 1 Taekwondo Championship making him the most bemedalled taekwondo jin in his class.

He also saw action in the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League and the National Taekwondo Championship.

Last year, a martial artist from Bulacan was the “Tarzan” awardee.

Now 2nd Lt. Gerald Gasacao is a black belt in karatedo and also a mixed martial arts practitioner.

Female Cordilleran cadets have broken the more than 100-year history of PMA for having the most number of recipients among female graduates since the Academy opened its doors to women in 1994.
