PSC ok’s sports events in Ifugao
by Marcelo B. Lihgawon / PIA

LAGAWE, Ifugao – The promotion and development of sports in the province got a boost with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) agreeing to implement its “laro at saya sa parke” program in coordination with the provincial government.

PSC Operations Division Office Director Manuel Bitog said the PSC has approved the application of Ifugao to be a host of the commission’s family-oriented fun and recreation sports dubbed LSPP.

The program, which was pioneered in Luneta Park in Manila, is a park-based sports-for-all program of the PSC that will eventually evolve into a national campaign to draw families into play and sports. There are no distractions of a dazzle of medals, banners and glamor as the focus is on mass participation for a healthy lifestyle.

The sports and recreation activities include aerobics, boxing, taekwondo, gymnastics, sepak takraw, and wushu held at the public plaza in Lagawe.

Gov. Dennis Habawel had requested PSC Chair Ritchie Garcia last August for the implementation of the program in Ifugao to promote and develop sports in the province.

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Alfonso Lista and Lamut bagged the championship in the just concluded provincial athletic meet.

The Department of Education said Lamut hauled 22 gold medals for the championship trophy in the elementary level while Alfonso Lista bagged 43 gold medals for the high school level.

The players will represent the province in the regional athletic meet to be conducted early next year.
