Kalinga official inspires athletes
by Larry Lopez / PIA

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Rigid training and discipline as essentials in winning and reaching success in sports were emphasized to athletes during the Provincial Athletic Meet.

Speaking during the opening of this year’s Kalinga Provincial Athletic Meet, Vice Gov. Allen Jesse C. Mangaoang stressed to athletes from all over the province the significance of physical preparation through sustained training and being fit by staying away from vices.

He explained a 60-40 formula, which requires 60 percent training and 40 percent coaching.

A good combination of these two, he said, assures a player to win medals.

But more than just joining in the games, Mangaoang pressed on other values developed from sports like teamwork and playing fair, which he said would effectively carry a player when he pursues his career.

To the athletes, he encouraged them to play over the objective of simple winning but keeping in mind to play and win for the province, stressing this year’s Provincial Athletic Meet’s theme: “Kalinga soaring high.”

The official reminded players to play for friendship and sportsmanship instead of sheer competition that may even put at stake established relationships.

He also urged players who may have lost to accept defeat openly and for winners to stay magnanimous.
