Baguio to host final leg of Tour de Filipinas 2015

Baguio will host the final stage of the Le Tour de Filipinas 2015 that will see the participation of 13 intercontinental and national squads.

It will be a tough test as top Filipino and foreign cyclists negotiate the most challenging stage 4 as they reach this mountain resort via the historic Kennon Road from Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Stage 4 and final leg will cover 101 kilometers and will determine the king of the only International Cycling Union (UCI)-calendared road race in the country.

The continental teams which are returning to the 6th Le Tour are Satalyst Giant Racing Team of Australia, CCN Cycling Team of Brunei, Astana Continental Team of Kazakhstan, Pegasus Continental Cycling Team of Indonesia, TPT Cycling Team of Iran, Terengganu Cycling Team of Malaysia, Bridgestone Anchor Cycling Team of Japan, and 7-Eleven of the Philippines.

The national team of the PhilCycling will also see action in the event that kicks off in Balanga to Balanga in Bataan, being the stage 1 that spans 126 kilometers.

Uzbekistan will also field its national team, according to event organizers.

Other teams that are Le Tour first-timers include Team Novo Nordisk of USA, RTS Carbon of Taiwan, Attaque Team Gusto, also of Taiwan, Pishgaman Yazd Pro Cycling Team of Iran and Singha Infinite Cycling Team of Thailand.

Stage 2 on Feb. 2, 2015 will be a 153.75-kilometer ride from Balanga to Iba in Zambales, and Stage 3 on Feb. 3, 2015 will cover 149.34 kilometers from Iba to Lingayen, Pangasinan.

From Pangasinan, all roads will lead to the Summer Capital.

Filipino cyclists Mark John Lexer Galedo of Team 7-11 zoomed to the finish line of the final stage of Le Tour de Filipinas 2014 at Burnham Park.

The 28-year-old Galedo is the only Filipino to win the overall title thrice in five editions of Le Tour, with fellow Filipino cyclist Baler Ravina winning in 2012.

Joel Calderon won in the 2009 edition.
