P3.7 M worth marijuana seized, one nabbed in sting operation

Police destroyed P3.7 million worth of marijuana plants that were discovered in several plantation sites in Kibungan, Benguet recently.

Joint personnel of the Benguet Provincial Police Office, Kibungan Municipal Police Station, Benguet Police Drug Enforcement Unit, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Benguet conducted a two-day marijuana eradication operations on April 27 to 28.

The team discovered fully-grown  and dried marijuana plants, which they burned at sitios Bito and Proper Tacadang in Barangay Tacadang.

The team also discovered 20 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves hidden in a stone cave at Proper Tacadang. 

On April 26, a buy-bust operation was conducted in Barangay Cruz, La Trinidad, Benguet by joint operatives of La Trinidad Municipal Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit, Benguet DEU, Provincial Intelligence Branch and the Regional Intelligence Division.

A suspect reportedly sold one heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu” to the poseur buyer.  

The arrested suspect was identified as Mark Kuan Morales aka “Major,” 30, and a native of Pagsanjan, Laguna but a resident of Marcos Highway, Baguio City.

Other items recovered from the suspect were one mobile phone, buy- bust money, one heat sealed transparent plastic sachet containing shabu, and one tube containing grinded granules of marijuana.

The suspect and confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to the police station for documentation and proper disposition of the case.  

The result of the qualitative examination of the submitted shabu seized with a total weight of 0.224 grams and one suspected glass pipe of dried marijuana fruiting tops with total weight of 0.1512 grams confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and marijuana, respectively.

The suspect also underwent drug test which yielded positive. The suspect was turned over to Benguet Provincial Jail based on the inquest resolution signed by Prosecutor Sheryl Anne Cabantac, with no bail recommended for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act.
