CAR heightens quake alert in May 13 polls
by Rubenson Bilag

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) is on full alert and will respond to emergencies to assure the safety of the public during the midterm polls.

“We are ready and will be on alert as the election nears,” said Albert Mogol, Office of the Civil Defense-Cordillera director and CDRRMC chair.

Mogol said the council will help the Commission on Elections for an orderly conduct of the election, in case an earthquake happens on the day of the elections or during the canvassing of votes.

“In coordination with the Philippine National Police and the Comelec, the CDRRMC is ready to help in case of an emergency,” he said.

The PNP is also a member of the CDRRMC, under the security and safety cluster.

Mogol said the CDRRMC headquarters in Camp Henry Allen, Baguio City will be on heightened alert and will be on 24/7 monitoring to respond in case of emergencies.

Several earthquakes occurred recently in different parts of the country. Last Monday, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake hit the Ilocos Norte area.

There were no reports of damage or casualty due to the earthquake.
