OTC seeks support for transport upgrade
by Joseph B. Zambrano / PIA

The Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC) is seeking for the support of the transport sector in the Cordillera to the transport modernization program of the government.

Speaking before more than 200 transport sector representatives from all over the region during the Cordillera Regional Summit for Transportation Cooperatives, OTC Chair Emmanuel Virtucio asked for full cooperation and support to the flagship project of the Duterte Administration for the benefit the riding public, drivers, and operators.

Virtucio said the transport modernization will be fully implemented in January next year.

The Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) envisions a restructured, modern, well-managed, and environmentally sustainable transport sector where drivers and operators have stable, sufficient, and dignified livelihoods while commuters get to their destinations quickly, safely, and comfortably. This is pursuant to Department of Transportation Department Order 2017-011, the Omnibus Guidelines on the Planning and Identification of Public Road Transportation Services and Franchise Issuance.

The PUVMP outlines, among others, regulatory reforms and sets new guidelines for the issuance of franchise for road based public transport services.
