IBP, CBCP partner for IP rights, welfare
by PIA release

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) join hands to protect the welfare and uphold the rights of indigenous people nationwide.

The partnership was forged in a memorandum of agreement signed by IBP National President Abdiel Dan Elijah Fajardo and CBCP Episcopal Commission for Indigenous People chairperson Bishop Prudencio Andaya Jr. during the North Luzon Legal Aid Meeting and International Law Seminar.

The agreement aims to extend free legal services to IPs referred by the CBCP or any of its Social Actions Centers nationwide.

CBCP will share its data, facilities, equipment, and manpower to IBP in providing such assistance.

Bishop Andaya said that through the Episcopal Commission for IPs of the CBCP and the more than 50 diocese and apostolates nationwide, they have been partnering with IP communities in defending their ancestral domain, their culture, and way of life and their pursuit of self-determination.

Carling Dumulot, who represented the Aetas of Zambales, said that he is honored to be a witness to the MOA signing as the partnership will be a big help for an IP like him.

The other witnesses are National Commission on Indigenous Peoples Regional Director Roland Calde, Caritas Baguio Director Fr. Many Lopez, Legal Assistance Center for IP representative Ma. Vicenta de Guzman, Asian IP Representative Jose Molintas, CBCP EIP Secretariat Tony Abuso, IBP Governor for Northern Luzon Domingo Egon Cayosa, IBP Gov. for Western Mindanao Chares Reasonable, and IBP Baguio-Benguet President Alan Antonio Mazo.
