15 cops in CAR face charges
by Primo Agatep / PNA

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Fifteen cops are facing administrative and criminal cases with the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera, authorities said.

S/Supt. Nestor Eswagen Felix, head of the Cordillera IAS, said out of the 15 cops, 11 were assigned in the Cordillera while four were detailed elsewhere in the country.

Of the Cordillera-based cops, three were from Abra, three from Ifugao, two from Baguio, one from Kalinga, and one from Apayao.

The cases, involving policemen with ranks from PO1 to superintendent, were rape, robbery, libel, alarm and scandal.

Felix said 10 of the cases were filed from January to May this year, while five were carried over from 2017.

Felix said six of the 10 cases the IAS received in the first five months were already elevated to the regional police director, which is the top disciplinary authority in the region.

Last Monday, newly installed Pro-Cor Regional Director Rolando Nana said that aside from combating illegal drugs and crime, he would also focus on cleansing the ranks of the region’s police force.
