DILG gears up DRR, fulfills 1,092 projects
by DILG release

The Department of the Interior and Local Government said that the local government units will now be more prepared for disasters as it announced the completion of a total of 1,092 disaster-risk reduction projects in key localities nationwide since 2013.

DILG Officer-in-Charge Catalino S. Cuy said the projects were implemented by priority LGUs and financed under the Department’s Bottom-Up Budgeting (BuB)-Other Projects
Of the 1,092 completed projects, 31 are under the 2016 program, 964 are under the 2015 program, 80 are under the 2014 program, and 17 are under the 2013 program.

Apart from the completed projects, the Department is also monitoring the progress of 311 ongoing projects, 142 projects on procurement, 2019 projects with approved preliminary documents like feasibility study, program of works, or detailed engineering design, and 18 projects under preparation of initial documents.

Cuy said all 17 projects under the 2013 program have been completed.

For the 2014 program, 80 of the 87 projects have been completed, four are ongoing, and the remaining three projects are on procurement stage.

Of the 1,322 projects under the 2015 program, 964 have been completed, 214 are ongoing, 70 are on procurement stage, 73 have approved initial documents, and one is on preparation of preliminary documents.

For the latest batch under the 2016 program, 31 of the 346 have been completed, 93 are ongoing, 69 are on procurement process, 136 have approved preliminary documents, and 17 are on preparation of initial documents.

Cuy said BuB-Other Projects vary in nature so while there are projects that are consummated after the completion of the procurement process, there are also infrastructure projects like evacuation centers which will take longer to finish.

BuB-Other Projects aim to enhance local government capacities on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

It also includes non-DRR related projects such as land acquisition, institutional facilities, economic facilities, livelihood, and capacity development trainings.

In addition to the BuB-Other Projects, the Department is also administering BuB-Water Supply and BuB-Local Access Road Projects nationwide.
