Gov’t releases P20 M for highway rehab
by Joseph B. Zambrano

The Department of Public Works and Highways released P20 million additional funds for the rehabilitation of Marcos Highway to make it an all-weather road.

DPWH-Cordillera Director Edilberto Carabbacan said the P20M released last year was implemented but was not enough to cover the complete repair of the highway.

The additional fund is being used for the improvement of damaged road sections, including the drainage system, Carabban said.

While repairs are ongoing, he appealed to motorists and the public to bear with the inconveniences.

Heavy traffic welcomed visitors and tourists who visited Baguio City during the Lenten season as excavation works are being done in some stretches of Marcos Highway, one of the major roads leading to the city.

“We assure the public that we will beat the deadline in the rehabilitation of Marcos Highway and that all the standards will be strictly followed,” Carabbacan added.

Frequent road repairs have been earning the public’s ire, particularly in areas where the progress of work is slow.
