The Police Regional Office-Cordillera is the only regional command in the country with personnel who all tested negative from the mandatory drug tests among its force.
C/Supt. Francis Elmo Sarona, Cordillera police director, said in his speech during the 26th PRO-Cor Foundation Day last week, that they ensured a drug-free command by subjecting their personnel to a mandatory surprise drug test.
“And we are proud to say that, PRO-Cor earned the distinction, as far as internal cleansing is concerned, to be the only police regional office in the entire country where not a single member turned positive on illegal drug use,” said Sarona.
Sarona added this is also evident with their conduct of the present administration’s anti drug campaign, Oplan Double Barrel. In July last year, they have initially identified 379 drug personalities and categorized 184 barangays as drug affected out of the 1,177 barangays of the region.
“But the figure rose with the cooperation of various agencies and civil society organizations to 21,000 drug personalities,” he said.
Earlier, the regional police command has declared Abra, Ifugao, Kalinga, Apayao and Mountain Province as drug-free provinces as of Dec. 31, 2016.
He said they are now monitoring the remaining 19 barangays in Baguio and three barangays in Benguet where illegal drug trade was monitored.
Continuous monitoring is also being done in the provinces that were identified as drug-free.
