President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the appointment of Baguio Mayor Mauricio Domogan as chairperson of the Cordillera Regional Peace and Order Council, a multi-agency group that oversees peace and order, including anti-insurgency operations.

Domogan was the top choice of Interior and Local Government Sec. Ismael D. Sueno for the post, which became effective after the President gave his approval.

Domogan, the longest serving politician in Baguio and a known regional political figure in northern Luzon, is credited for his vast experience in public service and his broad knowledge about the peace and order concerns in the Cordillera.

Prior to his appointment as RPOC chairperson, Domogan was the chairman of the Regional Advisory Council of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group North and Central Luzon.

It was during his stint as RAC-CIDG-CNL chair that several resolutions that aim to address the long-term problems on peace and order, litigation of drug-related cases, prostitution, investment fraud, and illegal recruitment were passed for concerned agencies to act on these problems.

The city mayor welcomed his appointment as RPOC-Cordillera chairperson, saying that it’s a huge responsibility that support and cooperation from government and private agency partners are needed.

He said foremost in his initial top priorities is the RPOC’s support to major thrusts of the Duterte government on peace and order, particularly the war on drugs.

The all-out campaign against syndicated crimes like the investment scams that have victimized thousands of Cordillerans of their hard-earned money will also be a top priority of the new RPOC chairman.

The sustained campaign of the CIDG-CNL and the National Bureau of Investigation-Cordillera has resulted in the arrest of top incorporators of companies allegedly engaged in investment fraud in the Cordillera and many parts of central and northern Luzon.

“We need to protect our constituents from syndicated crimes so that their hard-earned monies will not be taken away by people who seemed to disregard the welfare and future of their victims and their families,” Domogan said.
