by Rimaliza A. Opiña

The mayor of Paracelis, Mountain Province is mounting a campaign to raise funds to rebuild the close to 40-year-old Bagong Lipunan school building of the town, which was burned in August.

Mayor Marcos Ayangwa told the Courier some organizations have already pledged to give some amount but they still need more to augment the funds that will come from the Department of Education.

He said rebuilding the school would cost around P3 to 5 million. The pledges, on the other hand, has not reached P500,000.

Ayangwa said he is initiating the fund-raising activity to accommodate the 600 students who are currently using makeshift classrooms.

The building, which was built in the 1980s is mostly made of wood and only its flooring is made of concrete, said Municipal Administrator Van Talawec.

Ayangwa said if the LGU is able to raise funds to build one or two classrooms, the LGU will provide labor to start with the construction.

He said the LGU is not expecting for the rebuilding of school yet, as the budget for the same still has to be submitted by the DepEd regional office to its central office for allocation in the 2020 budget.

The LGU will also organize a fun-run where the proceeds will be used not just for the reconstruction of the burned building but also to improve its technical-vocational building.
