Pursue the Visiting Forces Agreement
PERCIVAL B. ALIPIT, Baguio City

The United States and the Philippines have a long history of alliance.

When the 1947 U.S.-RP Military Bases Agreement expired in 1991, the two countries crafted the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) in 1998, supplemented by the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement in 2014 allowing the U.S. to send troops to the Philippines for security measures and operate facilities on Philippine bases.

However, a termination notice of the VFA for off tangent reasons was filed by our country, which had been extended twice and left hanging.?

As the security in the West Philippine Sea becomes turbulent, the need to continue with the VFA is beneficial to the Philippines, the fact that our country at the moment is defenseless against foreign aggression.
