It was indeed a double fortune for Karen Sales—she does not only have a healthy baby boy but an instant celebrity baby, too, as she gave birth to him on New Year’s Eve and on the beginning of Baguio’s Centennial year.
Baguio’s New Year and Centennial Baby is the second son of Karen, a housewife, and Rafael Reyes, a vegetable truck driver, residing at Yogyogan, Tuba, Benguet.
The baby, however, was not immediately named by his parents. He was welcomed with fireworks as he came out at 12:06 a.m. at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center. The baby was born through normal delivery and weighs 2.96 kilos. As a token the couple received P3,000; assorted goods; and one cavan of rice from the Silahis ng Pasko Organizing Committee.
“Maswerte maipanganak ng New Year,” Sales said with a shy smile when asked how she feels about her son being the talk of town.
Meanwhile, three other unnamed baby boys were born on New Year’s Day at the BGHMC. Roselyn Albancio gave birth at 6:10 a.m., Mary Lamsis at 7:33 a.m., and Rose Acenas at 8:05 a.m. There were two babies delivered at Pines City Hospital, a baby boy to Mylene Agustin and a baby girl to Luzviminda Abalos. Another baby boy was born at the St. Louis Hospital of the Sacred Heart born to Lagasca Bautista.
Last Christmas, the Silahis ng Pasko Committee led by Nars Padilla also chose Crisha Depdepen as the Lucky Christmas Baby of 2008 at the BGHMC. The baby girl is the second daughter of Gila Depdepen, 29 and a housewife, and Jeffrey Depdepen, 25 and a laborer residing at Gen. Luna Road. |
