by Ofelia C. Empian

Civic group The Cordillera Connection-Philippines has raised P3.5 million for various beneficiaries in its charity work to help less privileged individuals in the Cordillera in 2019.

President Gregorio Taag said the group, also known as The Cordillera Binnadangan Connection, Inc., said they have reached out to more people with their charity works as well as involved more overseas Filipino workers in raising up P3,481,130.28.

“We could not have done all of these if not for the concerted effort of all country chapters and the launching of new ones,” Taag said.

The group jumpstarted 2019 through its Project Takkay on Jan. 5 to 6 in partnership with local government units for its culminating relief distribution that served 4,461 families and 10 new scholars and cash grants to four beneficiaries. It was able to raise P1.37 million for the activity.

In March and April, it conducted medical missions such as breast, cervical, prostate cancer examination, and circumcision at the La Trinidad municipal gym and another mission in Tanudan, Kalinga and Sadanga, Mountain Province.

The Concert for Life 28 was conducted on April 22 for 62 chronically-ill beneficiaries, raising P1.038 million for the project.

Another concert was held in October 2019 for 150 active chronically-ill beneficiaries, which raised P184,641.24.

The Concert for Life 29 was staged on Oct. 13, 2019 for 48 chronically-ill beneficiaries raising P886,250.

Group members also visited two patients in need of assistance on Oct. 18, 2019 namely Hanna Lois Nabunat and Gina Pag-a Espiritu who each received P10,000 cash assistance.

Those given P23,822 financial assistance each were Fernan Galacyan, Rhesa Lepaen, Geraldine Boado, Vivhap Quelino, Marcelina Regoso on Nov. 11.

More beneficiaries, namely Loida Aberin,  Ador Aswigue, Alyza Baguista, and the Concert for Life Series benefited from the P58,500 sponsorship of the group.

On Dec. 15, the Concert for Life 30 was staged benefiting 50 chronically-ill patients while Layad Concert 1 was held on Dec. 22, 2019 for 15 chronically-ill beneficiaries from Mountain Province.

The group was able to help its 14 graduating scholars to reach their dreams while 12 new scholars and students who renewed their scholarships were assisted financially.

TCC’s newest chapters are TCC-Geneva, TCC-La Union and TCC-Mountain Province and are now part of the 27 chapters of the growing TCC global organization.

Taag, an educator by profession, said the group, despite setbacks, is continuing its commitment to serve the needy people in the region, stressing that all of the funds raised are given directly to the intended beneficiaries.
