Cordillera lass lands second in Ms Tourism, Culture tilt

CORDILLERAN BEAUTY -- Filipino-Belgian Roxanne Baeyens of Baguio emerged 1st runner-up in the 2019 Miss Tourism and Culture Universe pageant in Yangon, Myanmar, where she also won the Miss Popularity special award. A 22-year-old Filipino-Belgian from the Cordillera carried the Philippine flag and won first runner-up in the Miss Tourism and Culture Universe 2019 in Yangon, Myanmar on Aug. 31.

Roxanne Baeyens, who traces her roots to Besao, Mountain Province and Brussels, Belgium, is the runner up to the 2019 Miss Tourism and Culture Universe winner Olivia Gunawan of Indonesia.

Baeyens also bagged the Miss Popularity plum and she placed top five in the Best National Costume award for her Darna-inspired costume by designer Angelica Allado Fonacier.

“I’m just happy I made it this far on my first international pageant, all thanks to you guys who believed and supported me! It was my honor to represent you, mahal kong Pilipinas,” Baeyens said in her Facebook post.

The 5’5” beauty earlier won the Face of Tourism Philippines 2019, which earned her a ticket to the pageant.

Baeyens, who grew up in Baguio City, is a Tourism graduate of Saint Louis University and is currently pursuing her career in the entertainment industry under Cornerstone Entertainment Inc., the talent group that handles popular artists such as Angeline Quinto, Claudine Barretto, Dominic Roque, Empoy Marquez, Iñigo Pascual, Jaya, and Yeng Constantino.

Other winners in the pageant were Wenanita Augang of Malaysia as 2nd runner-up; Audrey Wafack of Cameroon as 3rd runner-up; Canada’s Milisa Grande as 4th runner-up and France’s Sonia Ait Mansour as 5th runner-up.

Baeyens’ counterpart, Yves Campos of Cebu City won the Mister Tourism and Culture Universe title besting all 14 male candidates from all over the world.

The 26-year old Filipino nurse also bagged the Best National Costume for his Sarimanok and Maranao art-inspired costume.
