Kabayan brings back ‘mystical’ tagline for tourism promotion
by Ofelia C. Empian

In a bid to strengthen its tourism sector, the municipality of Kabayan, Benguet is pursuing its tourism programs reintroducing its tagline “Onward Mystical Kabayan.”

The sangguniang bayan has unanimously passed the resolution designating the municipality’s tagline to be used in its promotion of the town and other related documents “for identity and uniformity.”

“The tagline has already gained popularity not only in the Philippines but also abroad,” the resolution stated.

Mayor Faustino Aquisan said they will create programs and projects that will focus on increasing tourism growth in his administration.

Aquisan said they will pursue sustaining responsible tourism, as it will generate more jobs and livelihood opportunities for residents further improving the socio- economic condition of the town.

“We want each of our visitors to have a mystical experience every time they visit Kabayan. Even if they come back multiple times,” he said.

The mayor said they are working towards enhancing tourism sites and opening new ones as well as improve tourism-related activities to place Kabayan among the major tourist destinations in the country.

Aquisan, who was the town mayor from 2007 to 2016, said he would revive culture-related tourism events and activities he previously initiated with renewed linkages to government agencies such as the departments of Tourism, and Environment and Natural Resources.

“We have a rich and colorful culture and heritage as indigenous people which is still intact. That alone makes Kabayan mystical,” he said.

Kabayan is the home of the age-old burial caves with mummies and Luzon’s highest peak, Mt. Pulag, as well as the four lakes.

It also houses the local branch of the National Museum, wherein a marker identifies the burial caves of the town as one of the national cultural treasures, bestowed upon the town as early as Aug. 1, 1973.
