The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority recently held its third National Quality Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) forum to recognize the outstanding technical-vocational institutions (TVIs) and TVET programs provided in the Cordillera.

“The main focus of the star rating system is on the curriculum and program delivery, support services, program management, and program performance measures,” said Engr. Manuel Wong, Tesda-acting regional director.

This year’s National quality TVET forum carried the theme, “Driving Quality Assurance in TVET in the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR).”

He added that the star rating system aims to identify TVIs’ registered programs that have surpassed the minimum requirements of Tesda's Unified TVET Program Registration and Accreditation System.

He said the star rating system aims to recognize the accomplishments and improvements the TVIs have instituted in their programs to further enhance their TVET system to deliver quality services to their clients.

Among the one-star awardees were the Provincial Training Center (PTC) of Ifugao for Carpentry (National Certificate (NC) II, PTC-Kalinga for Driving NC II, PTC Mountain Province for Automotive Servicing NC II, Baguio City School of Arts and Trades for Food and Beverage Services NC II, and Baguio-Regional Training Center (RTC) for CNC Lathe Machine Operation NC II, CNC milling Operation NC II.

Wong said that one-star meets the minimum threshold of Competency-Based Training (CBT) program delivery and program performance measures.

The two-stars meet standards substantially above threshold of CBT program delivery and program performance measures, and the three-stars met way beyond the threshold of CBT program delivery and performance measures.

The ceremony was held recently at the Crowne Plaza in Ortigas, Pasig City.

Tesda Sec. Isidro Lapeña said this year’s forum will foster a culture of raised awareness and deepened understanding on the potentials and risks related to the 4IR, and better management of quality TVET in the age of technology, innovation, and digital skills.

“In recognition of the emerging 4IR, the changing skill sets of the 21st century and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics have to be integrated in TVET, which plays an important role in the 4IR to equip the youth/learners of today for jobs in the future,” he said.

Lapeña added that driving quality assurance in TVET means engaging TVIs to initiate improvements and program innovations that will result to laudable program performance measures.
