CHED celebrates Silver anniversary

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Commission on Higher Education-Cordillera launched the commemoration of its 25th founding anniversary by highlighting success stories in the realization and partnership towards access, equity, and global excellence.

Dubbed as Sarihumpay or “Sari-saring husay at tagumpay” (various brilliance and feats), it showcases an open house expo that displays the success stories of student-grantees through different scholarships and financial aid and grant opportunities and quality programs.

It also highlights the HEI’s milestones featuring partnership with CHED for the past 25 years.

The Higher Education Trade Fair was also launched, which is intended to assist the state universities and colleges in the region to exhibit their products and technologies that have been adopted and/or developed, which  are deemed to have social and economic significance.

The Sarihumpay open house expo will continue until May 17 while the Higher Education Trade Fair lasted until May 10.

The festivities commenced on May 7 with a unity walk participated in by HEIs within Baguio and Benguet. It was followed by an ecumenical fellowship and a splendid meal of dippig jen dokto (banana and sweet potatoes).

Being a region that was once minoritized in terms of development programs, CHED-Cordillera has assisted the evolution of the region to become the educational hub of the north. It is now serving 84,539 students through 42 accredited public and private higher education institutions offering numerous quality programs.

CHED was established on May 18, 1994 through Republic Act 7722 as a separate governing entity covering public and private HEIs. It has facilitated in the region the recognition of centers of excellence and centers of development programs while endorsing the autonomous status of three private HEIs.

Throughout the varied struggles for access and opportunities of Cordillerans in higher education, CHED-Cordillera has been instrumental in empowering and enabling HEIs to transform its people to be the hope in the mountain.

Students, parents, educators, communities, line government agencies, and private and non- government organizations are welcome to visit CHED-Cordillera located at BSU Compound, Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet.
