Mankayan kids trained on fire marshal duties
by Assandra Grace M. Nginsayan

MANKAYAN, Benguet – The Bureau of Fire Protection conducted the second Kiddie/Junior Fire Marshal training at the Lepanto Golf Club on March 1 and 2 as part of the Fire Prevention Month observance.

The training was participated in by 300 schoolchildren from different early child development centers and private and public elementary schools.

“The early engagement of children in public safety awareness is beneficial to the communities, especially that our country is prone to disasters” said FO1 Frushell C. Paiking, community relations officer of Mankayan Fire Station.

The activities included safety, traffic, and emergency signs familiarization; earthquake and fire drill and return demonstration; ladder surprise game; ropemanship; basic rescue carries and stretcher relay; fire extinguisher familiarization; basic hose rolling and nozzle connection; fire truck actual familiarization and operation; and arts and crafts.

The training aimed to familiarize the participants on BFP’s mission, vision, mandates, functions, and responsibilities; instill valuable life skills during earthquakes and fire incidents; impart information about safety awareness and fire prevention battle; ensure that every participant will help in the achievement of a fire-free community; and introduce the profession to the young.

The activity was initiated by the Mankayan Fire Station under S/Insp. Arvin A. Aquino with the support of the municipal government and other stakeholders.
