Mayor orders budget office to establish Creative City desk
by Jessa Mardy P. Samidan / PIO

A Creative City Desk will be established in the city government in line with the designation of Baguio as part of the Unesco Creative Cities Network.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan issued Administrative Order 66 s. 2019 designating the city government’s Baguio City Economic and Investment Unit under the City Budget Office as the Creative City Desk. The order took effect on May 30.

The unit shall receive communications pertaining to artists’ requests as well as liaise or coordinate with concerned city government departments with respect to artists; request for aid and assistance, according to the order.

The unit shall also facilitate collaboration among stakeholders concerned with Baguio as a Creative City including assistance to artists and artisans with business registration matters, among others.

The establishment of a Creative City Desk was based on the clamor of the creative sector during the city government-sponsored consultation with planning session and workshop held March 22 and 23.

Baguio City was designated as the first Unesco Creative City on crafts and folk arts in the Philippines.

The designation binds Baguio City to implement programs and projects aimed at developing the sector’s sustainability through intergenerational transfer of knowledge and skills as guided by the Philippine Strategic Framework to Promote Philippine Culture and Values from 2017 to 2022.

Fifty-six institutions engaged in woodcarving, silver craft, weaving, and creative performances among others have already been mapped out.
