Activities for Marriage Week celebration set
by Julie G. Fianza / PIO

Couples in the city who got married 25 years ago are enjoined to reaffirm their vows on a pre-Valentines date on Feb.13 as part of the Marriage Week celebration.

Interested couples should present and submit a photocopy of their marriage certificate, including proof of residence in the city at the City Social Welfare and Development Office on Feb. 4 and 6 only.

The renewal of vows was announced during the media Kapihan at the Senior Citizens’ Center with Councilor Elmer Datuin, CSWDO personnel Liza Bulayungan, Bernardina Tabin of the Civil Registry Office, and Ceasar Jose Damasco of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center as panelists.

Philippines is the first in Asia to join Marriage Week activities, an international movement among 26 countries.

Bulayungan said that Marriage Week activities are geared towards strengthening, improving, and restoring couples’ relationships, with support from different groups and agencies including the CSWDO.

The launching and unfurling of calendar of activities is on Monday during the city hall flag raising ceremonies; with the presentation of couples’ seven-day challenge.

This entails writing of love notes to spouse, vowing not to say anything negative to spouse for a week, a 30-minute spouse’ conversation without mobile phone and TV, praying together, posting on social media of spouse’ routine or good traits, daily goal sharing with spouse, and intimacy.

On Feb. 9 and 10 at 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., a Zumba class is scheduled at Malcolm Square; in lieu of the earlier planned couples’ fun run.

Damasco, a fitness advocate, said recognition will be given to early registering couples, most energetic, and youngest and oldest.

Awards like the darling of the crowd and hatawera and hatawero zumba dancers will also be given. As part of pre-marriage counseling services, a visit to the Regional Social Services Center in La Trinidad, a venue for children one to five years old given up for alternative parental care, is scheduled by the DSWD-Cordillera.

DSWD-Cordillera representative Bernard Cadaoan said visits to centers for disadvantaged persons due to dysfunctional situations may also be scheduled.

The activities focus on social problems arising from problematic or difficult family foundations.

Free entrance and carousel ride is offered for married couples at SM Sky Ranch on Feb. 12, 13, and 14, on a one-time availment only.

Couples are requested to bring their marriage certificate and proof of residency in Baguio to avail of the offer.

Pre-marriage counseling is also scheduled at the City Civil Registry Office on Feb. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon; Feb. 8 from 1 to 5 p.m.; Feb. 11, 12, and 13, from 1 to 5 p.m.; and Feb. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon.

A romantic couples’ dinner date with a discount from participating restaurants is slated on Valentine’s Day.

Datuin said only the Solibao-Ganza-Canao chain of restaurants’ management agreed to extend at least 10 percent discount on couple’s meals during the Marriage Week.
