New municipal hall launching to highlight Bontoc twin events

This year’s celebration of Bontoc’s 110th foundation day and 14th Am-Among Festival will be momentous.

Bontoc Mayor Franklin C. Odsey said most of the activities for this year’s festivity will be conducted in the new Municipal Capitol building.

A ritual known as “sekhep si afong” will be performed by the town’s elders on Sept. 11; and the blessing and inauguration of the Municipal Capitol and the thanksgiving mass will be on Sept. 12.

Other activities include the agri-crafts trade fair from Sept. 10 to 17 at the Circle Rotunda, Buntis Day on Sept. 13, aquaponics seminar on Sept. 13, search for Mr. and Miss Am-among on Sept. 14, folk dance and ballroom competitions on Sept. 15, Bontoc Got Talent finals on Sept. 15, which will all be held at the Municipal Capitol, and inter-LGU volleyball games on Sept. 14 at the Provincial Plaza.

The civic parade in celebration of the municipality’s foundation day will be on Sept. 16.

The occasion will be attended by Supt. Byron F. Allatog, the Country’s Outstanding Police Officer in Service (COPS) awardee in 2014. He is a proud son of Bontoc.

Awarding of winners in the sports competition will be on Sept. 16 at the Municipal Capitol.

The Am-Among Festival will be celebrated on Sept. 17 with street dancing followed by cultural performances and a program at the Municipal Capitol.

The keynote speaker is June Chayapan Prill-Brett, a world renowned anthropologist and professor emeritus at the University of the Philippines-Baguio who also traces her roots to Bontoc.

A competition dubbed “Chepap si fotog” tis scheduled in the afternoon.

The celebration will end with the Am-among trail run on Sept. 23.
