by Rimaliza A. Opiña

BRITAIN-PHL RELATION -- British Ambassador for the Philippines Daniel Pruce mentioned the various programs organized from the partnership of British Embassy and the Philippines for the next four years of his stint in the country, stressing on their program on transnational education particularly on the curriculum on disaster risk reduction management that will be piloted in Saint Louis University headed by Fr. Gilbert Sales later this year. Pruce visited the city on March 1 as one of the stops of the Great British Festival 2018 tour happening nationwide. -- Ofelia Empian

Earn your masters degree in one of the top universities in the United Kingdom for free and without having to leave the Philippines.

Along with nine other universities in the country, Saint Louis University, in partnership with the British government is offering a scholarship program for baccalaureate degree graduates to earn their masters in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

Through the program called transnational education (TNE), those who want to study in the UK may apply and if approved, can avail themselves of the benefits of a fully-funded tuition plus world class instruction from some of the best universities, not just in the UK, but in the world.

“The TNE is an opportunity to gain access to internationally-accredited professionals. It gives an individual not only great education but exposes him to diverse cultures, gives skills, reduces brain drain and develops engagement with colleagues,” British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce told students of SLU during a forum on Thursday.

Pruce was in Baguio to promote the TNE. Baguio is the first stop of the promotion.

The ambassador is also set to visit Iloilo City and Dumaguete to encourage more Filipinos to enroll.

The TNE is part of the Great British Festival 2018, which also showcases the best of British culture, innovation, business, and education.

SLU President Rev. Fr. Gilbert Sales said the masters program in DRRM is a niche program for the university.

As part of its collaboration with the British government, SLU is also improving its facilities, infrastructure, laboratories, and its faculty members.

It is set to deploy 15 faculty members to UK to undergo training before they begin teaching in August.

He said DRRM masters degree graduates from SLU will be issued two diplomas – one from SLU and the other from the university in UK where a student enrolled. Both diplomas are internationally recognized, Sales added.

He said if the program is successful, SLU will collaborate for more masters degree offerings.
