High end resorts in Abra proposed
by PIA-Abra

LA PAZ, Abra – Efforts are being firmed up to push tourism in the province.

Rep. Joseph S. Bernos is working for the development of a resort that would equal the Santorini Villas of Vitalis and Safari in Santiago, Ilocos Sur and Thunderbird Resort of San Fernando City, La Union.

“It is not enough for us, Abreñeans, to simply show our waterfalls and rivers, caves and mountains to the tourists. We have to have appropriate lodging places with amenities of high-end quality to suit the tastes and needs of our tourists, both foreign and domestic, especially the elite,” Bernos said as he showed a development plan of the proposed Abra Mountain Resort at Barangay Mudeng in this town to some line agency heads.

“We need to level up our capacity to provide high-end accommodation that could at the same time provide leisure if we really want to push our tourism industry,” he said.

He added that a Chinese investor will fund the project.

Bernos also explained where his congressional funds, now called the Local Infrastructure Projects (LIP), are used. He said 70 percent of the LIP goes to physical infrastructure projects and 30 percent goes to soft projects.

Physical infrastructure projects are the roads and bridges including buildings while soft projects go to social services such as education, health and other support services to the basic sectors of society.
