TUBA, Benguet – A showcase of performing arts and sports exhibition enlivened this year’s celebration of the feast Sto. Niño of Prague and the golden anniversary of Sto. Niño Parish in Philex Mining Corp.’s Padcal mine.

The awarding of employees for having been with the company for 25 years was also among the highlights of the three-day celebration, which culminated on Jan. 21 with a mass celebrated by Baguio Bishop Victor Bendico.

Kalinga Rep. Allen Jesse Mangaoang took cognizance of how Philex Mining has taken care of the “interests of its loyal employees,” and told the company to continue practicing responsible mining.

“As an advocate of responsible mining, I urge you to continue your good practices, adhere to national and international laws and best practices, follow the mining rules, and be consistent in your compliance with the regulation standards,” Mangaoang, said.

“I am a believer in the benefits that mining can bring to the country, to the community, and to the people. But that is only if mining, of course, is done responsibly.”

Philex Mining president and CEO, Eulalio Austin Jr., said he hopes that the company’s responsible mining practices will help extend its operations beyond 2022.

The event was also graced by Benguet Gov. Crescencio Pacalso and Tuba Mayor Ignacio Rivera.
