In a bid to advance Ibaloy heritage, the organization of Ibaloys in Baguio will soon conduct a series of activities that would educate the public about the culture and traditions of the very first settlers of Baguio City and Benguet.

On Aug. 3, the Onjon ni Ivadoy and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts signed the memorandum of agreement that would allow the former to proceed with its projects, using the P375,000 grant given by the latter.

The project, called “Sustaining Public Awareness of Ibaloy History and Heritage through Akhad Eskwela Katutubo,” will gather cultural workers, masters, consultants, lecturers, and performers in Baguio and suburbs as resource persons who will help develop an Ibaloy cultural education program.

Through the Onjon ni Ivadoy, cultural bearers will conduct series of lectures, performances, workshops, mount art installations and exhibits on Ibaloy culture and history at the Ibaloy Heritage Garden, Burnham Park.

The entire project is estimated to cost P700,000. Members of the Onjon ni Ivadoy agreed that each clan will contribute to complete the grant issued by the NCCA.

The project of the Onjon ni Ivadoy is one of the seven approved grants by the NCCA.

The other projects are Benguet music festival, local history writing workshop of Kamora National High School, multiculturalism and ethnic identity experiencing authenticity in the city by the University of Baguio Alumni Foundation Inc., training of indigenous peoples local researchers in the Cordilleras on documentation of traditional culture and arts by the Cordillera Peoples Alliance, cultural and educational music video album and translation of the Ibaloy “Ikul” CD album in Benguet Kalanguya and Kankana-ey languages, and documentation of traditional culture and arts in Kabayan: values, customs and traditions, poetry and songs.
