Kapangan war museum first to exhibit 66th Infantry Div relics
by Rizel F. Bangaoet

A war museum will soon be built in Kapangan, Benguet.

The museum, which will be set up by the local government unit, will exhibit the mementos and vestiges of the Cordillera Veteran soldiers that were found during the World War II (WWII).

Mayor Manny Fermin said that the establishment of the War Museum aims to show respect for the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during WWII.

He said that soldiers who fought alongside the Americans during WWII have left memorabilia that are worth exhibiting in the museum.

Fermin said that if not because of the courage of the veterans, Filipinos will not be enjoying the freedom they have now.

The local government also posted a notice that residents can help in the construction of the museum through their donations or can extend a loan for the museum’s construction.

Families can donate things used during the olden times.

Fermin thanked residents of the province who gave materials for the museum construction.

Assistant Secretary Denton Kelly said that the museum will be the first to showcase the vestiges of the 66th Infantry Division, U.S. Army Philippines-Northern Luzon.

Kelly added that the museum will be completed with the help of stakeholders.

He said families of the veteran soldiers do not have to donate the mementos that have sentimental value, but can lend it to the government for exhibit.

The municipality is also expecting that the provincial and national government will help them in the completion of the war museum.
