Apps developed by UC studes semifinalists in Google contest
by Press release

Three mobile applications developed by Information Technology and Computer Science students of the University of the Cordilleras qualified for the national semi-finals of the 2017 Android Masters competition by Google Developer Group Philippines.

Two of the apps, namely Phommary and Shop’n Go, qualified in the Social Good category, which are impactful applications that provide social good made in collaboration with an non-government organization or a local government unit.

Phommary is an application that detects, processes, and summarizes into an outline the text found in a photo of an article or a page of a book. Its name came from a play between the words “photo” and “summary.”

Shop’n Go allows self-checkout in any store by using the smartphone camera as a barcode scanner which instantly charges the amount via online payment platforms such as PayPal.

Cattus Cassus, which qualified  in the Game category, is an adventure-puzzle game featuring a cat named Cas who fights monsters to save the city and the world.

Android Masters is a collegiate inter-school Android app development challenge open to all universities and colleges across the Philippines. It aims to encourage students to develop their creative app ideas and publish it to Google Play Store.

In 2015, a group of UC College of Information Technology and Computer Science students won the Grand Prize with their crime-reporting app “Crime Chase.”

UC is a Commission on Higher Education-Center of Excellence in Information Technology since 2007.
