Peace & order talk w/ SHS studes, Nov 16–17
by Aileen P. Refuerzo / PIO

It’s the senior high school students’ chance to speak on peace and order concerns.

The city council will hold another summit on public protection and safety and peace and order concerns this time for grades 11 and 12 students on Nov. 16 and 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Benguet Electric Cooperative Multipurpose Hall at South Drive barangay.

City council secretary Brenner Bengwayan said the conference aims to gather views and suggestions of the students on the crime prevention initiatives in the city.

“We hope that with the summit, the participants will be able to evaluate and design initiatives responsive to the needs and problems on the safety and protection of the students in the city,” Bengwayan said.

Vice Mayor Edison Bilog will convene the summit which also aims to enhance partnership between the students and the government agencies in the efforts toward crime prevention and preemption and possible solutions.

The summit will also “allow the students to mingle and interact with their fellow participants and develop camaraderie to enable them to better share their ideas and inputs to help improve the plans and programs for the promotion of their welfare and security.”

At the same time, the summit seeks to “empower the students to become instruments in sharing to their fellows the information gathered.

Bilog also recently convened a similar activity participated in by barangay officials and residents to share on how they can establish a closer working relationship with concerned agencies to make their areas of jurisdiction “safe, drug-free and crime-free.”

The summit was done under the auspices of the city council committee on public protection and safety erstwhile chaired by the late Councilor Roberto Ortega to gather inputs and concerns on the present peace and order situation in the city to aid the city council in coming up with future legislative measures.
