Cultural group to hold confab

The Dap-ayan ti Kultura iti Kordilyera (DKK) will have its 3rd Congress on Dec. 9 at the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary.

“While we strengthen our ranks to train more cultural workers, produce more artworks that depict our situation, struggles and aspirations as a people, reach out to a wider audience, and organize more cultural workers, coming together as an organization to learn and gain strength from each other is a dire need,” Alma Sinumlag, spokesperson of the group stated.

With the theme: “Resist tyranny and facism, advance the peoples culture for the defense of our land and our rights to self-determination,” the activity aims to review the previous accomplishments of the organization for the past years.

Sinumlag said the event also aims to draw lessons to be of help as they design their program for the next years.

“This is in the context of the need to reinvigorate the overall cultural work in the region,” she said. 

She added the existing organizations and individual members of the alliance are expected to attend the congress.

“Cultural organizations, individual artists, and cultural workers who believe in the cause of our organization from Baguio City and other provinces in the region are also welcome to join us in this historical gathering,” she added.  

Aside from organizational concerns and keynote message, performances in the form of indigenous songs and dances, theatrical productions and multi-media productions will be showcased during the activity.

Last Nov. 11 and 12, DKK performed at the international 2017 Amis Music Festival in Taitung, Taiwan.

Along with their indigenous instruments consist of gongs and bamboo instruments, native attires and their songs of life in the highlands, the 10-man group of 20 to 30 something cultural performers represented the Cordillera region during the annual international indigenous music festival.
