Baguio family is CAR’s Huwarang 4Ps unit

The family of Nesar and Ligaya dela Cruz from Baguio City won the 2017 Regional Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino finals held on July 31.

The dela Cruz family of Barangay Irisan bested other 4Ps finalists from the Cordillera provinces and earned the right to represent the region in the national search.

Nesar is a construction worker while Ligaya is a child development worker and an active Evangelical church volunteer. The couple is married for 14 years now and is blessed with four children namely Beverly Ann, 3rd year college at Kings College; Joyce Ann, Grade 11 the University of the Cordilleras; Phillip John, Grade 8 at Pines City National High School; and Cajeb John, Grade 5 at Cypress Christian Foundation School.

The dela Cruz kids are maintaining good grades and are active in extra-curricular activities. They are also actively participating in community and church activities.

Second place is the family of Marcelo and Daisy Chewacheo of La Trinidad, Benguet. The family of Rudy and Daisy Lawagey of Besao, Mountain Province placed third.

The other finalists are the Elpidio and Rosalyn Batallones family of Conner, Apayao; Francisco and Virginia Weygan family of Tinglayan, Kalinga; and Pio and Nena Dulnuan family of Lamut, Ifugao.

The Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya is an annual search of the Department of Social Welfare and Development that aims to recognize to 4Ps family beneficiaries who maintain strong family ties, demonstrate positive Filipino values, and have positive impact in the community where they reside.

For this year’s search, the finalists underwent panel interviews, made an on-the-spot poster depicting the importance of the 4Ps program to the life of beneficiaries like them, and showcased a family talent.

Judges for the final screening are Pastor Nestor Cutop of Family International Baptist Church, Victoria Dines, and Carmencita Daluyen, DSWD 4Ps focal person.

Ligaya dela Cruz, in her message, said winning the search will serve as her family’s inspiration to work harder to   be active members of their community and be role models to others guided by their strong faith in God and good family relationship.
