Hotels reduce room rates as rainy day promotions
by Joseph Zambrano

Good news to Baguio weather lovers and to local and foreign tourists.

Baguio hotels are offering 30 to 50 percent discount on room rates with free breakfast.

Department of Tourism Regional Director Pura Molintas said the rainy season is often the lean months for tourism in Baguio and in the Cordilleras.

“But not many people know that this is the best time for honeymooners and for people who need to rest and to unwind to come up to Baguio,” she said.

The grass and trees are greener and fresher because of the rain. Travelers can experience the cool and fresher environment in the region. This is also the time for cloud catching, she added.

Molintas invited travelers to take advantage of the promotions offered by hotels that are slashing their rates.

Heiner Maulbecker, general manager of the Camp John Hay Manor, said John Hay has come up with its “Irresistible Baguio” offering, which provides an almost 50 percent off on room rates. The promo is good until Sept. 30.

It is also offering a “Convene at the peak” promo for conventions and seminar participants to experience posh accommodations and superior conference facilities in one package, Maulbecker said.

Jeff Ng of Hotel Supreme, one of the most popular hotels in the Baguio, is offering a two plus one promo with free breakfast. A client can stay for two nights and the third night is free lodging.

Molintas added tourists should not miss the Hotel and Restaurant Tourism (HRT) Weekend scheduled on the last week of August until the first week of September. The HRT week will feature the largest wedding cake, among other events.

Tourist arrivals is expected to gradually peak in October as the busy holiday season nears.
