Cordillerans urged to join 2017 Nat’l Digital Arts Awards
by Harley F. Palangchao

DIGITAL ARTS AWARDS -- The regional launch of the 2017 National Digital Arts Awards was held at Calle Uno Coworking and Collaborative Space in Baguio last week with Nato Agbayani, founder and chief executive officer of Brand Guerilla PH, and Calle Uno chief Ace Estrada calling on Cordilleran digital artists to submit their entries for a chance to win and to have better employment in the future. -- Harley Palangchao

Organizers of the 2017 National Digital Arts Awards want Cordillerans to have a strong participation in the annual awards with a theme “#changeisherenow.”

Nato Agbayani, founder and chief executive officer of Brand Guerilla PH, said they recognize the talents and skills of Cordillerans in digital arts, reason why the award is being launched in Baguio for the first time.

The regional launch was held at Calle Uno Coworking and Collaborative Space, the first commercial establishment to offer high-speed Internet connections up to 300 mbps.

Entries for the annual awards will be formally opened where students from senior high school to college may submit their entries up to Jan. 31, 2017.

The contest has three categories: print, motion graphic, and digital games.

Mechanics for the contest will be announced via NDAA 2017’s Facebook page anytime this October.

Agbayani said they want to recognize the talents and skills of young creative Filipinos and to provide them an avenue to begin a promising career in digital art to help their families.

The award also hopes to build a huge community of young people with competencies in digital art and for this year’s game development.

Ace Estrada, chief of Calle Uno, said he knew of young talents who work at home, employed by foreign companies via outsourcing.

“We cannot discount the fact that Cordillera has full of talented students in digital arts,” Estrada said.

The NDAA 2017 will be the most inclusive and empowering contest on digital art as it will go around colleges and universities, as well as coworking spaces in the country to promote the awards and to conduct NDAA 2017 talks on digital art and game development across the country.

Aside from the Baguio leg, the award was also launched in Davao last Oct. 21 at the DreamWork coworking space.

The grand launch and call for entries will be on Oct. 27 in Metro Manila.

This year’s partners are Globaltronics, Inc, a leading digital out-of-home advertising company based in Manila; Guerilla PH, a business and advocacy consulting group and Cebu-based PR Works, a leading public relations firm in Visayas and Mindanao; and Synchronized 11, a leading events management team.
