Drug surrenderees in Ifugao trained on effective parenting
by Marcelo B. Lihgawon / PIA

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao – The municipal government through its various departments continues to hold activities for the benefit of drug surrenderees in the municipality.

Thirty four surrenderees recently underwent a training on males movement against violence conducted by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of fathers as primary educators in the total development of their children.

The activity is in line with the commitment of the MSWDO and the police to support the program against illegal drugs by providing trainings and psycho-social activities to help the surrenderees become productive citizens.

The MSWDO said through the training, the fathers will develop positive concept of self and build on their character to become role models to their children, develop role performance, establish a more positive and satisfying relationship with their spouses as pre-requisite to effective and shared parenthood; and establish support networks among fathers in the community through peer support group.

Among the topics discussed were “Understanding myself as a person,” “Becoming your wife’s best friend,” promoting family spirituality, role of men in disaster management, and men as vanguards of peace.

The role of men as advocates for reproductive health, drug and gambling-free home, prevention of family violence and household financial management were also discussed.

Interior and Local Government Director Marlo Iringan, who graced the opening day, advised the surrenderees to cooperate and change for a better life.
