Baguio Young Men’s Christian Association turns 75 on Dec 1
by Aileen P. Refurzo / PIO

The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Baguio will mark its 75th anniversary on Dec. 1.

Program chair Rev. Robert Sison said they started the 75-day countdown last Sept. 16 with an ecumenical prayer to mark the milestone in the history of the youth movement.

Sison said all the programs and activities that the YMCA Baguio conducted since January this year were anchored on the diamond jubilee celebration.

The activities were geared towards youth development in keeping with the tenets of the YMCA.

October activities will be capped by the YMCA Baguio 75th anniversary gold tournament and the monthly visit and cleaning of the YMCA “muyong” or tree-planting site at the Busol Watershed.

In November, activities include the United Nations celebration on Nov. 4, the 2016 North Luzon Academic Olympics on Nov. 5 and 6 and YMCA Martial Arts Expo on Nov. 12 and 13.

On Nov. 26, the YMCA will hold 3K and 5K fun runs at 6 a.m.; a lantern-making contest at 9 a.m.,  and the inter-school choral extravaganza at 10 a.m.

Celebration proper on Dec. 1 will begin with a street parade at 7 a.m. followed by a thanksgiving mass at 9 a.m.

The Search for Little Mr. and Ms. YMCA will be at 2 p.m.

The celebration will end with the awards and fellowship night at 6 p.m.

Other activities in December are the hospital visitation on Dec. 8; YMCA gift-giving outreach program, Dec. 14; YMCA family day and Christmas party, Dec. 17, and 3rd clean-up drive on Dec. 21.

YMCA Baguio is presently headed by club president Jerome Gawidan.
