TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan HAS appropriated P10 million mitigation fund for the Covid-19 prevention efforts.

Of the total, P5M is allocated for equipment, facility and supplies and the other P5M is allocated for relief operations.

Half of the resources will come from the province’s 2020 Quick Response Fund. Additional assistance is expected to come from the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The provincial government will provide relief goods to indigent families affected by the enhanced community quarantine declared in Luzon. The offices of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and Red Cross will spearhead relief operations.

Vice Gov. Dave Odiem said the measure was legislated to prevent the spread of the Covid-19. The proposal was deliberated during the recent emergency meeting of the provincial task force.

“We have to be ready with the resources to stem the spread of the dreaded disease,” Odiem said adding that frontline workers and the vulnerable sector have to be provided their needs and those to be affected particularly indigents who need assistance.

Gov. Ferdinand Tubban assured the people of Kalinga that the province’s officialdom is doing its best to protect the people from getting afflicted of the virus. “All we need is your cooperation to enhance community quarantine requirements, rules and regulations,” he said.

He also called on the municipal, city and barangay local governments to do the same. He asked local chief executives to disseminate to constituents to follow every guideline coming from higher authorities.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 20 directed governors, mayors and barangay chairmen nationwide to implement the enhanced community quarantine guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force.
