Kalinga among nat’l rice achievers
by Larry T. Lopez / PIA

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – For the third time, Kalinga was named as one of the outstanding provinces in the Department of Agriculture’s 2018 National Rice Achiever Award.

Kalinga along with Zamboanga Sibugay won the award out of four provincial finalists selected from 22 provinces nominated to the national search.

The search evaluation covered 2017.

Provincial Rice Program Coordinator Joe Casibang said aside from a plaque of recognition, the province will receive P4 million incentive, which will be used for agriculture-related projects.

The province won the prestigious award in 2012 and 2013.

Tabuk City also won under the Outstanding City category, receiving P1M as an incentive.

Casibang also said 11 out of the 16 outstanding agricultural extension workers from the Cordillera are from Kalinga.

The 11 workers are led by Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Bakilan. They will receive P25,000 each.

The awarding ceremony is scheduled on May 30 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

DA launched the search in 2011 to capture the impact of its rice program interventions towards achieving national rice sufficiency.
