DOST upgrades Kalinga entreps

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Department of Science and Technology approved release of P3 million for the upgrading of facilities of three local manufacturers to enable them to engage in mass production of their products for domestic export.

DOST Provincial Office head Leizel Isaguirre said the DOST-CAR signed a memorandum of agreement  for the  provision of P1.5M financial and technical assistance for  the Kibayen Mushroom Center; P1.4M for TDMC Hardware and Construction Supply,  and P237,350 for Amano Wood and Bamboo Craft  for the upgrading of their processing facilities.

The DOST has also approved P350,000 for the assessment and validation on coffee plantations in Balbalan, Isaguirre said.

Meanwhile, the consultancy group Management of Environmental Resources through Innovative Technologies Association conducted consultancy services to coffee growers in Balbalan last June 6 to 8.

Dixie Catacutan of DOST provincial office said the three-day encounter with coffee farmers is the first of three visits the team will have to render before their graduation from field course on Consultancy for Agricultural Productivity Extension for Sustainable Productivity of Coffee stand in Balbalan.

Catacutan also said a technology promotion on cacao processing is slated on June 22 at the Grand Zion Hotel to teach 60 participants on the production of cacao byproducts including exploring making charcoal out of cacao peel.
