BPATs train on martial arts, arnis
by PIA–Ifugao

KIANGAN, Ifugao – The Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) here were trained on basic martial arts and arnis so they can help the police maintain peace and order in the municipality.

C/Insp. Roy T. Awisan said he hopes to finish the training of BPATS in the 14 barangays of this town by the second week of this month.

A black belt in aikido and wushu, Awisan conducts and supervises the training.

This, he said, will be his contribution to the locality and as one of the ways by which the police can show their gratitude for the support, cooperation, and assistance that the people and officials of Kiangan are providing to the police.

To provide the other basic needs of the BPATs, Awisan, together with the Police Municipal Advisory Council, will spearhead a concert-for-a-cause on March 16. Proceeds will be used to purchase basic gears and equipment of the BPATs.

Awisan gained the support and cooperation of the municipal government and the community in the implementation of projects to make the police more efficient and effective in law enforcement. Among the efforts are the construction of community police action center at the boundary of Kiangan and Lagawe and another at Barangay Poblacion, the construction of the perimeter fence and advance post at the Kiangan Municipal Police Station, and the implementation of the police best practice to help reduce the number of children in conflict with the law in the community.
