‘No more retailing of liquid fuel products in Ifugao town’
by PIA–Ifugao

LAGAWE, Ifugao – No more retailing of liquid petroleum products in unsafe containers in this capital town.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Ireneo Tilan, Jr., Officer-in-Charge of Bureau of Fire Protection-Lagawe said that based on follow-up monitoring done by the agency, vendors selling bottled gasoline had stopped from their activities.

Tilan said that before the closure, the BFP notified the vendors about Department of Energy Circular 2003-11-010 prohibiting the sale of liquid petroleum products in soft drink bottles and plastic containers.

Section 5 of the Circular provides that storage, handling, transfer and/or dispensing of liquid petroleum products shall be subject to the following: liquid petroleum products shall be transferred only from underground tanks by means of fixed pumps designed and equipped to allow the control of the flow and prevent leakage or accidental discharge; liquid petroleum products shall not be dispensed from above-ground tanks, portable tanks, tank vehicles, drums, barrels or similar containers, e.g. bote-bote, into the fuel tanks of motor vehicles or containers.

He also reiterated that under Rule 13 of Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 9514 or the Fire Code, the BFP has the power to confiscate all fire hazards materials.
