Ecozone in Asipulo now an independent brgy

ASIPULO, Ifugao, – The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Liwon is now an independent barangay, bringing to 10 the number of barangays in this municipality. 

The creation of Liwon as a barangay is by virtue of Republic Act 10957, authored by Ifugao Congressman Teodoro Baguilat, Jr.

Vency Bulayungan of the Congressional District Office said RA  10957 was passed by the House of Representatives on March 13, 2017, amended by the Senate on August 14, 2017, and amendments concurred in by the House of Representatives on August 30, 2017. The Act was approved by President Rodrigo Duterte on Oct. 30, 2017.

Before its creation as a barangay, Liwon was a special economic zone in Barangay Amduntog.  It consists an area of 20,938,874 square meters including 1,090,407 sq. m.  boundary of Asipulo and Kiangan.

RA 10957 provides that the first set of barangay officials shall be appointed by the governor and shall hold office until such time that the new set of officers have been elected and qualified.

Moreover, all public infrastructure and facilities for public use existing therein at the time of the approval of this Act were transferred without cost or compensation to and shall be administered by the new barangay.

Barangay Liwon shall now be entitled to Internal Revenue Allotment shares pursuant to Section 285 of RA 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991.
