by Rimaliza A. Opiña

Seventeen patients in the Cordillera who contracted the B117 variant of the SARS-CoV2 have triumphed over the disease.

As of Feb. 9, of Department of Health Regional Director Ruby Constantino said that of the 18 detected with the B117 variant, 17 have recovered. However, the DOH also logged the first death due to the B117 variant.

The B117 variant, said to infect faster than the first Covid-19 variant, was first detected in Bontoc, Mountain Province last month.

Based on the contact tracing of the DOH, 489 and 111 close contacts in Mountain Province and Benguet, respectively, have been located and assessed.

Constantino said 321 close contacts in Mountain Province and 24 in Benguet have completed their quarantine. Of 600 unique close contacts of the B117 variant cases, 345 have completed their quarantine, Constantino said.

Meanwhile, the Cordillera’s epidemic risk level was lowered to low risk (from moderate risk) with a daily attack rate of 5.32 per 100,000 population or five people getting infected with the SARS-CoV2 for every 100,000 population.

Constantino reminded the public should continue vigilance despite lowering of the region’s risk level.

She said the public should consistently adhere to the BIDA Solusyon+ sa Covid-19 or the APAT Dapat, which is to wear mask, face shield, keep hands sanitized, maintain, one meter distance, stay in well-ventilated areas, minimize face-to-face interaction with people, and support only Food and Drug Administration-approved vaccines.
