Drive nets 46 blood units
by PIA release

TAYUM, Abra – The mobile blood donation drive hosted by the local government produced 46 units of blood.

The blood donors came from the different barangays of Tayum including personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, the municipal police station, 24th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, and the Rural Health Unit.

Barangay Pias Punong Barangay Juvic Tagura, a second time blood donor, said he is glad to participate in the initiative because he knew that through voluntary donation, he could save a life.

“I participated because this is my way of saving a life and it has good health benefits as well,” he said.

Tayum Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Jeddai T. Orio said his participation in the mobile blood donation is his way of encouraging the fellow youth to donate blood and help save lives.

Provincial Blood Program Coordinator Lilibeth Bigornia-Martin asked LGUs and those who can donate to keep donating blood voluntarily.

“I encourage all the LGUs to make an ordinance in support of the mobile blood donation program and advocate voluntary blood donation among their constituents. If we make it a routine in every municipality, there will be enough supply of blood in the province and there would  no longer be a need for the replacement scheme at the Abra Provincial Hospital, which means if a patient needs blood, he will no longer replace it because of the regular conduct of MBD,” she said.

The Tayum mobile blood donation was made possible with support from Mayor Placido Eduarte, Jr.; the RHU headed by Municipal Health Officer Joseph A. Galpo, Philippine Red Cross-Abra; and the Provincial Health Office in partnership with the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists and the Department of Health  provincial office.
