City gets adolescent-friendly facility and nutrition plums

Baguio is an awardee of the 2019 adolescent-friendly health facility.

Through the City Health Services Office, the award was bequeathed to the city, Sept. 17, in Parañaque City.

Regional awards for health and nutrition followed Thursday, Sept.19 in Baguio.

For the Teen Health Champions, Loakan District, Scout Barrio, Pacdal health centers, Lucban and City Camp Teen hub were awarded plaques of recognition, facility insignia and P100,000 cash.

CHSO personnel were joined by Department of Health Usec. Myrna Cabotaje and DOH-OIC Director Amelita Pangilinan.

Adolescent-friendly health facilities are those that provide equitable, acceptable, accessible, appropriate, effective and quality comprehensive care and service to enable healthy living, well implemented, empowered and responsible adolescents.

The award is initiated to acknowledging contributions of the local government unit to adolescent health. There are 704 adolescent friendly health facilities, in three levels, including those of Baguio City.

For the National Nutrition Council regional awards, the focus was on the decreased stunting in Baguio City.

With Executive Office of NNC Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang, Pangilinan, NNC head Rita Papey and other directors present, the awards for LGUs with consistent decrease in stunting prevalence among 0 to 59 months in 2016-2018 were given to Apayao, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province. Baguio City is the lone awardee for the city level.

Municipality level awardees are Bangued, Tineg, Tayum, Sallapadan, Pidigan, Licuan-Baay in Abra; Pudtol in Apayao; Atok, Bakun, Buguias, Kabayan, Mankayan and Tublay, in Benguet.

Baguio was awarded for being the National Nutrition Honors Awardee, with Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition Tublay, Benguet; with other awardees from Kalinga and Ifugao.

Noemi Garcia from Alfonso Tabora Baguio City is second runner-up to Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Laizel Ustari of Caponga, Tublay, Benguet.
