In-patient rehab center needed
by Julie G. Fianza / PIO

Due to an observed increase in clients, there is a need for a city in-patient drug treatment and rehabilitation center preferably at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

This was recommended through the result of monitoring report on Resolution 259, s. 2000, requesting for in-patient services division for drug dependents and youthful offenders, which BGHMC Chief Ricardo Ruñez, Jr. said could not be implemented due to lack of funds and space.

For 10 years however, BHGMC caters to drug rehabilitation clients through the only accredited Outpatient Drug Treatment and Rehab Center (ODTRC) for drug dependents and surrenderers for Baguio, Cordillera, and neighboring provinces, funded jointly by the Department of Health central office and Dangerous Drugs Board.

There are 186 registered outpatient clients at the center with Dr. Clarette Rosario Dy as program head and social worker Jeodiline Tay-og as main personnel.

Two-hour sessions are scheduled per individual once or twice a week, with individual therapy, psychiatrist consultation, group counseling, family education, relapse prevention, and aftercare planning.

A six month program is recommended, which vary depending on a healing progress of patients according to doctor’s and counselor assessment.

Copies of the report were furnished to Mayor Mauricio Domogan, the sangguniang panlungsod, and Ruñez.

The nearest soon-to-be opened in-patient rehabilitation center for the Cordillera is the Luis Hora Memorial Hospital in Bauko, Mountain Province, a four to five-hour drive from Baguio City.
